New year, new attempt.

Another new year is here, so I’m going to take another attempt at updating this blog. I’m hoping that, if I start off slowly, I can work up to doing at least a post a day. I think I will start with a post a week, and go from there.

A quick update on my life since my last post;

I am no longer doing Jiu Jitsu as it was getting too much for me to do both that and Ball Hockey. I am also no longer attending the gym, as my trial expired and I don’t feel I have the time or the energy to attend anymore. Noah Charles Elliot Winch was born on December 7th at 6:14PM and is doing just great. Amanda is doing fine too, other than a complete change in her sleeping habit.

Christmas and New Years have come and gone, time was spent with family and friends, and Noah was loved by all.

Anytime Fitness

Last week was an open house at Herbal Magic, and they had some draws for local prizes. One of them was a 30 day membership for Anytime Fitness, which I won. This is a 25 hour gym that opened up around a year ago.

I’ve decided to try it out for the month and see how it goes. My plan is to go at least 3 times a week; Monday, Thursday and either Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

So far I have been twice to the gym; Friday and today. It’s a nice gym, right in Manotick, so it’s not that far from home. The gym has cardio machines (tradmills, elliptical and bikes), weight machines and a weight area. I haven’t tried out the weight machines yet, as I’m mostly sticking to the treadmill.

Start of a new Jiu Jitsu session

Last night was the first class of Jiu Jitsu since the spring. Just like ball hockey the night before, it was pretty rough getting back into it. It was still a good class though, and I’m glad to be back at it after the summer.

Bulldogs first game of the fall season

At the end of the Sprummer season, the future of the Darwin Bulldogs was in question. The issue was that we needed committed girls to play. Well, on the last day of registration, we got enough people signed up.

Last night was the first game of the fall season, and it came with not too much warning. Luckily though, enough people showed up for us to play. We only had 3 guy, which wasn’t ideal, but we ended up playing really well. We also had 2 new players, and Catriona, (who has played on the team before for a season) who all played very well.

We won the game 5-2, which was a great start to the new season. Because we registered so late, we are playing against teams that we haven’t played before. I think that it’s going to be a nice change from the teams we normally play.

Phone fiasco

Well, I have broken my phone, and in the worst possible way; the screen has cracked. I was getting into my car after a long day at work and it slipped out of my hand and fell onto the gravel. When I picked it up, there was a lot of black, and crazy colour lines. I pulled the battery, but when I put it back in, it was just much worse. I discovered though that the touch part of the screen, and the phone were still working, as I could still use my unlock pattern and feel when I got it right.

So on Saturday I go to the Source to see about getting it fixed. Of course the warranty I had got didn’t cover screens (but I could have gotten the Plus warranty which does!). But this took them about 20 minutes to discover. So in the end it was discovered that I would have to pay to get it fixed. I considered buying a new phone altogether, but they cost way to much!

So now my phone has been sent away, and could take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks. The rest of the weekend was pretty weird not having a phone and being connected to the net all the time. So I contacted my buddy Jesse, as he had just gotten a new Blackberry, and still had his old one. He was kind enough to let me use it while I wait for mine to come back.

So this phone is a Blackberry Torch, which is very nice device, but it takes some getting used to the OS. At first I could only use it for making calls, using the browser and texting. Then i called Bell and I was able to get my plan switched to a Blackberry one. It took a day to take effect, but after that I was able to get back online and stay connected! I’m starting to get used to the OS, but I find there aren’t as many apps. Still, it’s a good device, and I like that there is the choice of the touch keyboard or the actual one.

Falling into old habits

Well, the inevitable has happened; I have not posted anything in a couple weeks. And its not due to lack of things to post about, its just me being me. I get excited about things and then loose interest after some time. Sometimes I’ll pick it back up after a short amount of time, other times it takes a while to pick it back up, and then sometimes I just never go back to it. I can see myself going back and firth with this blog, but I don’t think I’ll ever completely drop it. Only time will tell u guess!

Montreal Anniversary Trip, Day 1

This weekend is Amanda and mines first wedding anniversarry! To celebrate, we decided to come back to Montreal, where we came one year ago! We’re not staying in the same hotel as last time, in fact we’re not even staying in the same part of town.

Last year when we came, the Biodome, Insectarium and Botanical Gardens were all shut down due to a strike. So this year we checked it out, and they are open again, so we have picked a hotel close to them, and that is all we have really planned for the weekend.

Amanda took the day off work, and I worked late last night, so I asked to get off at  3. Amanda had everything packed up by the time I got home, so all I had to do was get changed and put together a few last minute things. Then  we began our trip! Driving was fine, and there were no traffic problems for the first bit. Shortly after crossin g the border, we stopped for a break at Timmy’s. Then we continued on, and got caught in the traffic on HWY 40. It wasn’t super bad, and it was moving the whole time, so we weren’t caught in it long.

It then took a couple wrong turns before we found the hotel and got checked in. We asked at the front desk where some good places to eat were, and they suggested Baton Rouge just up the street. So we got changed and made our way over tot he restaurant. We enjoyed a great meal (Amanda got prime rib and I got ribs). After that we walked around the mall for a short time, then made our way back to the hotel.

Tomorrow we will check out the Biodome, Insectarium and the Botanical Gardens!

Another win for the Bulldogs!

Second win in a row for us, and it was a good one! Final score was 13-4 for us. Not too sure how we did it, other than we were playing amazingly, and their goalie was not. I believe that almost everyone playing got a goal, or at least an assist. I got my 5th goal of my career (or maybe my 6th, theres too many to keep track of now!). I feel a bit bad though, cause I hit a guy pretty hard with my stick on the shot and I didnt even see it go in cause I was too worried that I hit him. I only knew I got the goal cause the rest of the team cheered. I then saw that the guy ad shin pads on, so I didn’t feel as bad.

Winning this game will potentially get us in the running for 5th ace overall if we win both our payoff games, which start next week. I think we can do it, as we have been aging really well the past couple games.
